on Anniversary of the ADA
The New York State Independent Living Council’s Youth Leadership Committee is seeking input from young people (35 years old or younger) with disabilities and/or experience with Independent Living Centers from across New York State to help us determine what advocacy priorities are important to young people. The feedback from this survey will help us launch one or more advocacy initiatives.
Folow the link to see the full explanation of why our friends in the National Council on Independent Living (NCIL) are strongly opposed to a bill before the US Congress, H.R. 5902, “the Disability Community Act”. WNYIL’s Director of Advocacy and Public Policy, Todd Vaarwerk, asks that you help in fighting this anti-consumer legislation:
Let's make sure that our local Congressional Delegation knows how we feel about this bill! Call Representative Brian Higgins at 202-225-3306 and Representative Chris Collins at 202-225-5265 and tell them that we strongly oppose this attempt to place the needs of the operators of institutions above our rights to live in the community. If you have any questions, contact Todd at 716-836-0822, ext. 101.
